This’s months lecture will be We LOVE natives! How to identify, control and eradicate our invasive pests presented by Leigh Bragassa.
As we know, invasive species are the second greatest threat to habitat loss after paving. This talk will focus on some of our more commonly known invaders as well as some (unfortunately) up-and-comers. How to map, track, and apply early detection and rapid response, and what to do when things have simply gone pear-shaped. We’ll also discuss things everyone can do that can help mitigate the threat of invasive species. We’ll also discuss some super strong natives that you might not want in a garden bed but can compete at an Olympic level with some of the most aggressive invasive plants. These are the backbone of our pollinator plants and can keep ecosystems on life support. Leigh Bragassa has been working with the City of Raleigh’s Parks Division for 17 years and is proud to serve as the first ever Invasive Species Program Coordinator as of 2015.

This program is open to participants 12+ and is free to attend. Advanced registration is required, participants will be emailed an invitation the day of the lecture.
