Libraries Rock – Stormwater Smart Reading – “Tap, Tap, Boom, Boom & Activities

Enjoy a book and activities with Stormwater SMART !

This year, PTRC’s Stormwater SMART program is partnering up with the Piedmont Triad Water Quality Partnership (PTWQP) to facilitate library programs throughout Alamance, Davidson, Forsyth, Guilford, Randolph, and Rockingham counties. Through this collaboration, the PTWQP is helping provide supplies for the program’s crafts, and will be donating a copy of Tap Tap, Boom Boom to participating libraries in our summer reading program. To follow the “Libraries Rock!” theme, our program goes a little something like this:

1. A Reading of Tap Tap, Boom Boom by Elizabeth Bleumle

-This fun and quirky children’s book takes readers through the different sights and sounds of a thunderstorm, and shows how a storm can bring a community together!

2. Craft Time: Something for every age!

-Rain Sticks (Ages 10+)

-Paper Maracas (Ages 6-10)

-Spoon Maracas (Ages 5 and below)

3. Activity: Project WET’s A-Maze-Ing Water

-Children will understand how rain can carry pollutants down the storm drain.

4. Activity: Project WET’s The Thunderstorm

-Utilizing the children’s new rain instruments, they will go through a series of motions and sounds to reenact their own thunderstorm!
