CWMTF Awarded to NC State and Burlington

Clean Water Management Trust Fund Grant Awarded

The North Carolina Clean Water Management Trust Fund (CWMTF), North Carolina State University, and the city of Burlington will be constructing the state’s first permeable curb and gutter adjacent to the United States Post Office along South Broad Street. This permeable curb and gutter will be hydraulically connected to a proprietary street tree system that will provide soil media and air space for root growth while structurally supporting the overlaying sidewalk. This innovative “treatment train” will be monitored for water quality and hydrology benefits. This project will determine if permeable curb and gutters connected to proprietary street tree systems are a feasible option to improve stormwater management in urban areas.
